This classic one-way route will whisk you from Antananarivo down to Tuléar along the famous RN7, a smooth asphalt road.

The sheer variety of national parks along the RN7 is incredible: enjoy the rainforest at Ranomafana, the mountains at Andringitra National Park and the desert and canyons at Isalo.

Day 1: Tana – Antsirabe (170 km)

Following breakfast, your journey commences towards the South. Departing bustling Tana, picturesque views unfold along the route. Winding through hilly terraced highlands, after 70 km, you’ll reach the village of Ambatolampy, offering an opportunity to explore an aluminum pot workshop. Your journey continues towards Antsirabe. Upon arrival in the town, vibrant pousse-pousse (rickshaws) animate the streets.

Day 2: Antsirabe – Ranomafana (250 km)

Following a brief exploration of the town’s craft shops, embark on the journey to Ranomafana, traversing the tapia forest adorned with endemic fruit trees. A stop in Ambositra, renowned as the capital of hand-craft, offers a chance to witness remarkable woodcarving demonstrations post lunch. Upon arrival in Ranomafana, engage in a night walk to observe nocturnal wildlife.

Day 3: Exploration of Ranomafana National Park

Ranomafana National Park stands as one of Madagascar’s most renowned rainforest wildlife havens. Its terrain primarily comprises steep, forested slopes traversed by well-marked trails, some leading to breathtaking lookout points. Amidst the captivating lemurs and diverse wildlife, encounters with leeches are commonplace within this lush sanctuary.

Your guide will endeavor to showcase a plethora of lemur species, reptiles, birds, and insects throughout your exploration. During night excursions, a unique experience awaits as the guide leads you to a clearing, where banana slices are affixed to branches for the mouse lemurs, while scraps of chicken are left for the Malagasy striped civets.

Day 4: Ranomafana – Ambalavao (120 km)

Following breakfast, embark on a journey to Ambalavao, with a scenic drive passing through Fianarantsoa, the second-largest city in the region.

Day 5: Ambalavao – Ranohira (220 km)

Begin your day with a visit to Ambalavao, the first typical village of the highlands, renowned for its wineries, vineyards, and the traditional Antemoro paper. Journey onwards to the Anja Reserve, where you’ll encounter ring-tailed lemurs flourishing amidst the stunning backdrop of massive granite domes.

Day 6+7: Exploration of Isalo National Park

Commence the two-day adventure to explore the splendor of this majestic park. Begin by visiting the Canyon des Makis, followed by a hike to Namazaha camping site, where you’ll set up your tent. Enjoy full board meals as you continue to explore attractions like the Piscine Noire and Bleue before trekking to the Piscine Naturelle.

Day 8: Ranohira – Toliara – Ifaty (170 km)

Drive to Toliara throughout the southeastern landscape. Passing by Zombitse NP to see the dancing SIFAKA. Lunch in Toliara. Continue to northward on a sandy and bumpy road.
